North Carolina Insurance Points
In North Carolina, insurance rates are determined, in part, by the number of insurance points received during a rolling three (3) year period, called the "experience period." The North Carolina Department of Insurance (NCDOI) regulates the number of points that are assigned for various violations as well as the increasing insurance costs that will be caused by the accumulation of insurance points.
The following shows the increased rates over the base rate dependant on the number of insurance points received:

The rate increase for insurance points is effective for a three (3) year period. An example of some of the offenses and the insurance points received are as follows:
