In nearly all cases, rescheduling your case after you have a failure to appear is not a major problem. In some instances motions will have to be filed, in other instances it is less complicated. For most traffic ticket violations, you have 20 days to address your failure to appear order. If you fail to do so within those 20 days, you will be reported to the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and charged a $100 Failure to Appear penalty. Your license will be suspended if the original violation that the hearing was scheduled to is not resolved within a timely manner. If your North Carolina license is suspended, you will not legally be permitted to drive in North Carolina or elsewhere.
